TUNISIA: its democratic election after Ben Ali

23 October 2011: Tunisian historic election after the deposed Ben Ali.
24 October 2011: Nahda (rennaiscance) Party claims 30 percent of the votes which makes them a ruling party.

I always maintain my view and argue that the Arab spring was not actually orchestrated by the West. My stance may not be necessarily true but I hold on to it 6o to 70 percent. Why? Why would US take measure clandestinely  to depose Ben Ali and Hosni Mubrak  where in fact they serve the US interest in the region? Their interests in Middle east are better served under authoritarian regime. Why would they concert effort to democratize the middle east whereby they fear the rise of Islamists? Thier rhetoric on democratization was a mere justification to advance their interest. If the region will be purely democratized, then it will provide a vacuum for the Islamist forces to rise which they foresee as a worst scenario.

The victory of Nahda party led by Rached Ghannouchi who was in exile for more than twenty since the time of Pres. Habib Bourguiba threatens the US and Israel. Ghannouchi was thrown out from Tunisia because of his political aspirations. The 23 October was very momentous for the future of Tunisia and the rest of the Arab world. However, this is the fact that we need not to forget. US has a strategic political and economic interests in the region. They will never abandon the Middle east politics because of its Oil and its commitment to the security of Israel. of course, US will continue to play the game of politics. Yes, it will re-adjust and re-position itself, it will reshape its foreign policy in the region but their National interest will always be the same. In addition,  they will definitely build alliance with the Islamists as they ally with regime of Hosni Mubarak and Ben Ali which to me needs crucial and deliberate  restraint. We need not forget that there is no permanent friend in politics. Take a look at the peak of Egyptian revolution, the closest ally of US in the Arab world was Hosni Mubarak. When people smashed him out, they had to lift their support and side with the protesters.

I may share the same concerns as others. Also, I share the same sentiment with majority of Tunisia who celebrate its democratic freedom and those who celebrate with the victory of Nahda party. But, extra precautions and vigilance should be rendered to avoid bad scenario. I once attended a forum on "Islamic perspective of peace among nations" by Abdul hamid Abu Sulayman in IIUM. I asked him on the direction of the Arab Spring and his reply was that we will wait for another next two witness how this political landscape of Middle east and North African countries will unfold.

So let's wait and see. Let's also pray for the right direction of the Arab spring. We should take a close look at the hijackers.

Allah Said: ''Or do you think that you shall enter the gardens of Bliss (al-Jannah) without such (trials) as came to those who passed away before you? They encountered suffering and adversity and they were shaken, that even the messenger and those who believed with him cried, When will come the help of Allah! And verily, the help of Allah is near!'' [TMQ 2:214]

Allah never breaks His promise. So long as we follow His path, His help is very near no matter how destructive is their plot.
